A long time ago, someone told me: “If you’re not learning something from your place of employment while you’re there, you’re doing yourself a disservice.”
With every job I’ve had, I watched closely how they operated in business in order to implement those bigger operations and enhance my small business. The tiniest details — from servicing clients to conducting operations — have inspired me to execute on that same level of business.
When I worked in high end retail, a huge part of our clientele was out-of-state, which required tons of outbound shipping. After a client would purchase an item via phone or email, we would package it up and place it into a shipping bin.
With this little detail already a part of my daily routine at work, I decided to borrow the same idea and create my own shipping bin for Random & Chic. Although I had absolutely no need for a bin at the time, I recycled a large pink bucket to store my future, incoming orders, and in good faith, created my empty bucket with a self-made “Shipping” sign.
Fun fact about me: I’m a huge fan of the movie Field Of Dreams.
To briefly summarize, the overall message of the film is: “If you build it, it will come” and I’ve always interpreted that as,
“If I began preparing myself now, the success will follow.”
So even if I had just one order, I would throw it into my “shipping bucket” with my future goal of being able to fill my bucket up to the top one day.
All My Life, Grindin’ All My Life (lol)
When I say I’ve been grinding and finding my way for 10 years, I mean it! Me and this pink bucket have history. I would have pop ups called “Garage Sales & Cocktails” (in actuality, it was just a garage sale with spiked lemonade), where I would bring my shipping bin and label it “Everything $10!”
Fast forward to when I quit my job, the first couple of months of business and my poor little bucket was drier than Flava Flav’s lips. I remember feeling so discouraged in those beginning stages. But luckily, I knew that God only required a mustard seed of faith. Quite frankly, that was all that I had.
As time progressed, the bucket was being filled more and more. And then boom, out of the blue — I was in overflow.
The Process of Coming into Overflow
I remember going to church to hear John Gray preach and the message in his sermon touched me when he said,
“God doesn’t bless you in numerical order. Instead of 1-2-3, He can take you from 1 to 50 to 764.” And that was exactly my case.
I went from praying and trying to manifest filling up 1 bin to NEEDING 5.
Before I knew it, I needed to move into a new place with 2 bedrooms so that one room could operate as an an office.
I was literally busting out of the seams of my old apartment and forced to expand. My apartment was giving me so much anxiety because I had simply outgrown it.
I never thought that creating this bucket would lead me to my dream loft of all things.
Another fun fact: In 2015, I held my 30th birthday in the same place that I currently reside.
I fell in love with the building and it’s charm immediately after hosting my birthday party there. So much so, that I placed a home that resembled my current loft now, on my vision board.
Praying to Actualization
I went from praying for my bucket to be filled to needed five shipping containers to living my best life in overflow. Which is exactly why I decided to host my first house warming on May 18, 2019. I wanted to celebrate growth and be surrounded by all the people that have loved and supported me along the way.
To my surprise on the same day, I hosted my house warming party, my business hit its first huge milestone of $100k in sales this year. Y’all, I woke up in morning and the first thing I did was check my sales. When I laid eyes on those six figures, my eyes filled with tears. I cried like a newborn baby because those numbers represented the leap of faith that I took.
Sleepless nights. Overworking myself. Being underestimated. But most importantly, it represented always believing in me. For believing in the vision God placed in my heart.
My friends and family showered me with so much love. I’m still so overwhelmed and blown away by the fact that this is only the beginning!
What I Learned from my Shipping Bucket
Below are a few things I’ve learned from my shipping bucket. From praying to manifesting and coming into overflow and abundance with my dreams:
- Prayer works and manifestations are real. But they don’t work unless you do bc faith without works is dead Okkkkurtt!!
- Know that dreams do come true. And they come true much faster than you think when you’re diligent and consistent.
- The universe is always conspiring in your favor. I could give you all the step by step of what I do on a daily to succeed (and I will/have more content coming) but I’d be remiss if I didn’t share that you first have to step your faith up in whatever you’re believing to come true.
- Where you start, is not where you’ll land. Don’t allow your current circumstance to define where you’re going.
1 year ago, I was so scared and unsure but I always believed in the vision God had for my life. I would stare at that shipping bucket and just imagine it being full one day. Now it’s transformed into an entire office space, new place, six figures in sales and is still growing!
The #BucketChallenge: Start Today!
I would like to challenge anyone looking to start their own online business or that has already started one, to create a shipping bucket in good faith that your bucket will too runneth over.
Pray over your bucket and imagine your bucket being filled to the top.
Remember I’ve had this bucket for nearly 7 years. Perhaps you’ll see results overnight or perhaps it will be the beginning to the manifestation of a beautiful journey.
